    * Note: The SNU Portal Services is a web-based system that extends the academic, administrative and interactive services of SNU to the online world. Through this system, faculty members can manage their classes: uploading syllabi, course evaluations, and grades. Unfortunately, the current system is only available in Korean. However, provided below is a guide to assist your utilization of the SNU Portal Services regardless of your proficiency in Korean. Upon additional language or technical difficulties consult your department¡¯s administrative office to guide you through the system. Available there are the SNU Portal Services, as well as the Integrated Administrative System, another web-based system for faculty and administrative personnel, to provide you with the tools to manage your courses.

    Uploading the Syllabus
    A. The syllabus should be uploaded when proposing to open a class, or scheduling the meeting time of a class
    B. How to upload
    i. For new members of the faculty, the process of uploading the syllabus can be done through the administration office or the department office.
    ii. For continuing members of the faculty, it can be done by logging on to SNU Portal Services (http://my.snu.ac.kr) ¡æ ¡°ÇлçÇàÁ¤¡± (Academic Administration) menu ¡æ ¡°´ã´ç°­Á¡± (Responsible Courses) tab ¡æ ¡°°­Àǰèȹ¼­¡± (Syllabus) tab ¡æ ¡°¿¬µµ ¹× Çбâ Á¶È¸¡± (Access yearly or semester) tab ¡æ click on the title of the course and write or attach a copy of the syllabus.
    C. The syllabus should be detailed and thorough enough for students to have a clear understanding of what to expect will be taught in the course. This is the most efficient way to guide them in determining which courses to choose or drop.
    Course Evaluation
    A. The criteria for grade assessment should include many areas such as mid-term, final exam, and assignment performances, class attendance and participation.
    B. Letter grades should be given in the form of A, B, C, D or F with+(top), 0(middle), and-(bottom).

    C. If a course was dropped by a student after the the Course Modification Period, a ¡®W¡¯ should be given.
    D. ¡°I¡± (Incomplete) grade: If a grade is not given during the grading period, students of a course will be given an ¡°I¡± grade.
    Faculty must submit a grade within 3 weeks after the final day of classes, or the student will receive an ¡®F¡¯.
    E. The assessment of grades can be made in groups from each college or department.
    F. For liberal arts courses, the percentage of students receiving A or B should not exceed 70%.
    G. For core courses, 20 to 30% of students should receive an A, 30 to 40% a B, and 30 to 50% grades below C.
    H. The professor should further assess students with + (top), 0 (middle) or - (bottom) among the same grade level.
    Recording the Grades
    A. The grades must be recorded within one week of the final day of classes.
    B. How to record the grades
    i. Process: See Attachment 1
    ii. Submitting the Chart of Recorded Grades: Professors must submit this form to the dean of the department within one week of the final day of classes.
    C. If a grade is not given during the grading period, students of a course will be given an ¡°I¡± (Incomplete) grade. Faculty must submit a grade within 3 weeks after the final day of classes, or the student will receive an ¡®F¡¯.
    D. If a course has been dropped by a student after the Course Modification Period, a ¡®W¡¯ should be given.
    E. If a student has withdrawn from school during the semester, it should be assumed that the student has dropped the course.
    F. If a student has been suspended from school for more than 1/4 of the weeks in a semester, it should be regarded as the student having dropped the course.
    G. Repeating a Course
    i. If a student repeats the same class more than twice, only the latest grade will be taken into account. However, it should be recorded on the transcript that the student repeated the course.
    Required Number of Instruction Hours
    A. The required number of hours of instruction for faculty members is as follows.
    i. Nine hours per week, during a 30-week semester
    ii. Excluding the labs for performing arts or physical education, every two hours of lab will be counted as one hour.
    iii. 50 minutes will be counted as one hour.
    B. Guidance hours for graduate students¡¯ research papers will be counted towards the required number of hours of instruction.
    C. Failure to fulfill the number of instruction hours required will bear the following consequences.
    i. A faculty member who fails to fulfill the yearly number of instruction hours must teach the remaining hours during the following year.
    ii. Such failure will be taken into account in view of reinforcement of the position.
    iii. Any department with a faculty member who failed to fulfill the required number of instruction hours will not be allowed to appoint any additional part-time instructors.
    iv. Fulfillment of the required number of instruction hours, or lack thereof, will be taken into consideration upon selection of research professors and the giving of bonuses.
