Time of Promotion |
Tenure-Track Faculty promotion takes place twice a year, on April 1st and October 1st.

Required Time before Promotion |
1. Required time before promotion for each title is as stipulated in Appendix 3.
2. Acknowledged instructional experience is restricted to full-time lectures at a 4-year college.
3. For candidates in the fields of the fine arts and physical education, instructional experience at an institute equivalent to a 4-year college is required.
4. Acknowledged institutions referred to in (2) are determined independently. |

Promotion Evaluation |
1. Evaluation criteria for promotion candidates are as stipulated in Articles 11, 13, and 19 of SNU¡¯s Tenure-Track Faculty and Teaching Assistant Appointment Regulations. Three (3) evaluators will take part in the evaluation, one of which shall be a non-SNU faculty member. Final evaluation is the average of the grades given by the 3 evaluators.
2. Specific regulations not specified above will be determined by the President.

Acknowledged Duration and Number of Research Products |
|
1. Evaluation of candidates is based on the criteria below. Candidates must receive a total of 80 points or more in order to be eligible for promotion.
|
A. Evaluation criteria are: educational activities (40), research activities (40), service activities (10), and Dean¡¯s assessment (10). Additional points (5) are awarded depending on various awards and commendations. This adds up to a total of 105 points in total.

B. Educational Activities (40) are evaluated based on: class responsibilities, degree facilitation, and class assessment, according to the table in Appendix 2. Specific evaluation and evaluation criteria may be adjusted by each school¡¯s Promotion and Tenure Committee.

C. Research Activities (40) are evaluated based on: Designated Research Products (20), Overall Research Products (15), and Other Research Activities (15), according to the table in Appendix 3. ¡°Other Research Activities¡± refers to assigned research tasks, industry-academic cooperative research, etc. Specific evaluation for Overall Research Products and Other Research Activities will be conducted by each school¡¯s Promotion and Tenure Committee.

D. Service Activities (10) are evaluated based on: on-campus activities, institutional activities, government services (advisory positions, judges, delegation member, etc.), and community services, according to the table in Appendix 4. Specific evaluation and evaluation criteria may be adjusted by each school¡¯s Promotion and Tenure Committee.

E. Dean¡¯s Assessment (10) is conducted by the dean/associate dean of each school or department, according to the criteria specified in the table in Appendix 5.

2. Research Products Evaluation |
|
A. A candidate¡¯s research products will be given a grade among ¡°¼ö¡± (5 points), ¡°¿ì¡± (4 points), ¡°¹Ì¡± (3 points), ¡°¾ç¡± (2points), and ¡°°¡¡± (1 point), by 5 evaluators. The final grade is determined by neglecting the highest and lowest grades and calculating the average of the remaining 3 grades. |

3. Acceptable Research Products and Conversion Rates |
A. Acceptable research products pertinent to the candidate¡¯s field of expertise include the following.
i. Published books
ii. Published translations
iii. Papers published in academic periodicals or collections
iv. Achievements such as presentations, exhibitions, or selections (Fine Arts and Physical Education candidates)
v. Other achievements (designs, projects)
vi. Compilations, editions, master¡¯s thesis or dissertation (requires approval from Promotion and Tenure Committee)

B. Specifics and possible disputes regarding the above criteria will be determined and mediated by the Promotion and Tenure Committee.

C. The conversion rates for research products are as follows. However, if the candidate
is the first author of a joint study or a correspondent author, then the candidate is eligible for 70 points.
i. Independent Study: 100 points
ii. 2 coauthors: 70 points
iii. 3 coauthors: 50 points
iv. 4 coauthors or more: 30 points

D. Point conversion for practice in the fields of the fine arts or physical education is as stipulated in Appendix 2.

4. Contracts limited to 2 years require 100 points including one paper published in an academic journal written either as an independent study, as a first author of a joint study, or as a correspondent author. Contracts for between 2 and 4 years require 300 points including three papers, and for contracts for 4 to 6 years, 500 points including five papers. However, if the candidate has exhibited exceptional academic achievement, the candidate is exempt from the above requirements upon review by the Promotion and Tenure Committee. |
