Tenure |
|
Once you receive the title ¡°Professor¡± your appointment is guaranteed until your retirement.
Relevant regulations state that upon the candidate¡¯s request, he/she may be issued a short-term contract, however, as of yet, never has there been a prospective professor who chose a short-term contract.
In order to ensure competition, SNU provides tenure to associate professors as well. Up to this point, no monetary benefits for tenured professors have been extended to associate professors. About 10 percent of all associate professors have been granted tenure so far.
The SNU Administration is working on expanding tenure to associate professors. Currently, many faculty from the Natural and Technological Schools are applying for associate professor tenure, while faculty from the Liberal Arts and Social Sciences are not. Three (3) years after a rejection of tenure, the candidate is eligible for tenure application again. Also, tenure application can be received upon promotion. Therefore, it could be said that there are many opportunities for tenure reception.
Restriction on Number of Tenured Faculty
The number of tenured faculty cannot exceed 90 percent of the total number of Tenure-Track Faculty.
