  • Disciplinary Action

The gravest violation that calls for disciplinary action is drinking under the influence. Areas near faculty housing are key targets for DUI crackdown. Also, as SNU faculty hold a special position in Korean society, coupled with the fact that faculty are government officials, any fights or hassles you might find yourself in might get you into trouble. Any suit filed against you, or cancelled suits, will be reported to the School Administration.

    Conditions for Disciplinary Action
    1. Failure to abide by the National Government Officials¡¯ Law or Orders stipulated by Law.

    2. Failure to fulfill one¡¯s duties as a faculty member.

    3. Failure to maintain the dignity of the faculty.
    Types of Disciplinary Action
Disciplinary Actions include: heavy disciplinary action (discharge, release from position, suspension) and light disciplinary action (wage reduction, reprimand).
    Effects of Disciplinary Action
    1. Duration of Suspension must be longer than 1 month, but no longer than 3 months. During this time, faculty retain their title as a government official, but do not have any duties, and therefore receive a two-thirds deduction of their normal wage.

    2. Duration of Wage Reduction must be longer than 1 month, but no longer than 3 months. During this time, faculty receive a one-third deduction of their normal wage.

    3. Upon receipt of Reprimand, faculty must express remorse for the violation committed.

    4. Faculty are not eligible for promotion and advance during a certain period of time, as outlined in the Presidential Orders, after initial reception of Disciplinary Action and upon termination of Disciplinary Action.
    Promotion Limitations
    1. Period of time ineligible for promotion:
    A. During period of Disciplinary Action

    Wage Deduction during Disciplinary Action
    1. Suspension: Two-thirds deduction of normal wage.
