including faculty payments and other faculty finance issues, such as pensions and allowances.

Faculty Payments
Details of Payment

Salaries for faculty members are comprised of the base salary plus other relevant allowances. The items are as shown below.

A. Base salary: Monthly salaries are paid in set amounts according to salary class, and are raised each year.
B. Allowances
- Service Allowance: According to the number of years of service, faculty members may receive an allowance of up to 50% of the base salary mentioned above. These allowances are provided each year in January and July.
- Service Allowance Bonus: According to the number of years of service, monthly bonus payments of 50,000- 130,000 won may be provided.
- Family Support: 16.7% of the base salary is paid each month as supporting funds for faculty with families.
- Family Allowance: Each month, additional payments are provided according to the number of resident family members: 30,000 won in case of a spouse, 20,000 won for children or other family members such as parents.
- Child Education Allowance: Support is provided for children of faculty attending middle or high school.
  Allowances of 54,000 won for each middle school student and 409,000 won for each high school student are paid four times a year, in February, May, August, and November.
- Holidays Allowance: On major national holidays, namely Seolnal (Lunar New Year) and Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving), 60% of the base salary is given as an allowance.
- Meal Plan: A monthly provision of 130,000 won is given for meals.
- Transportation Fees: A monthly provision of 140,000 won is given for transportation expenses.
C. Research support allowances according to position:
- Professor: 2,000,000 won per month
- Associate Professor: 1,950,000 won per month
- Assistant Professor: 1,900,000 won per month
- Full-Time Lecturer : 1,600,000 won per month
Date of Payment :
Salaries are paid on the 17th of each month, and allowances are also paid on the 17th of applicable months.

A. To request provision of Family Support or Family Allowance: Receipts for your children¡¯s school tuition must be submitted to your affiliated Department Office.

B. To request provision of a Child Education Allowance: Receipts for your children¡¯s school tuition must be submitted to the Department Office.

Faculty Pension
Faculty members of SNU, once on tenure track, are acknowledged as public officials, and are eligible for the government pension. Foreign full-time faculty, although lacking Korean citizenship, are also acknowledged as holding this position, and are thus eligible for the pension as well.
Pension Amounts
A. Retirement pensions
Pension rates differ according to age and number of years employed. Recipients meeting the requirements below are provided pension amounts as described respectively.

- Regular retirement pension
(Retirement after 20+ years of employment, at over 60 years of age):
(Monthly salary * 50/100) + (Monthly Salary * No. of years employed exceeding 20 years * 2/100
- Early retirement pension
(Retirement after 20+ years of employment, at below pension payment age):
Depending on the number of years short of pension payment age (PPA), 75%~95% of the regular retirement pension is paid.
Note: The monthly salary mentioned above is calculated as the average amount of salaries received during the duration of employment.
- Retirement Pension by Lump Sum
(Retirement after 20+ years of employment, requesting pension payment in a lump sum):
(Monthly salary * No. of years employed * 150/100) + (Monthly salary * No. of years employed * No. of years employed exceeding 5 years/100)
Note: The monthly salary in this case is the final received monthly salary.
* For those retiring before 20 years of employment, and wishing to receive a pension,
the amount is calculated as follows:
  - Employed for less than 5 years: Monthly salary * No. of years employed * 120/100
  - Employed for more than 5 years, less than 20: same as retirement pension by lump sum
Remuneration for Full-Time Faculty
A. Retirement Remuneration: When a public official retires or dies, the immediate family of the official may request remuneration within a period of 5 years after the event.

B. Accident Compensation Remuneration: When a public official acquires a disability due to disease or injury, or dies of it, remuneration may be requested within 5 years. For recuperation funds, remuneration must be requested within 3 years of the date of illness or injury.

C. Condolence Remuneration : If the official, the spouse or a dependent family member (parent) dies, remuneration may be requested within 5 years of the date of death.

D. Accident Compensation Remuneration: In the case that some property of the official or his/her spouse is in need of compensation due to an accident, remuneration may be requested within 3 years of the incident.
Faculty Welfare
Faculty members of SNU on tenure track, as public officials, are eligible to receive financial support for medical expenses and cultural activities. The welfare program is a customized system, allowing for personal choices. Excluding a set amount which goes toward medical insurance, the support funds can be used according to your specific needs, such as for book purchases, exercise programs, etc.
