| Graduate Scholarship
for Excellent Foreign Students (GSFS) |
GSFS is offered to graduates
from universities in East, Southeast, and Central Asia
to help them continue their studies at SNU. 1 to 4 students
from various colleges of SNU, for a total number of
every semester, are selected. Recipients are
exempted from paying tuition for 2 to 4 academic years,
and accommodation (in the Gwanak campus dormitory) is
optional. Award decisions are based on the applicants¡¯
academic achievements and potential, as well as their
personal accomplishments. Records of past studies, a
study plan, personal statement, and letters of recommendation
and other achievement records, as well as specific qualifications
such as language proficiency, are all taken into consideration.
The appropriateness of an applicant¡¯s academic goals
and suitability of preparation for the proposed program
of studies are also assessed. Interviews, examinations,
and/or additional documents may be required from the
applicant. The Office of International Affairs (OIA)
will assist the application and registration procedure.

| Silk-Road Scholarship |
The Silk-Road Scholarship is to promote cultural exchanges in the 'Silk-Road' area by supporting graduate students from those countreis. It provides selected students with tuitions and living expenses for two years. Students who are seeking master's or doctoral degrees in humanities, social sciences or cultural studies are eligible to apply. Applicants should be citizens of among of these countries: Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, Nepal, Afghanistan, India, Bangladeshm, Pakistan, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Yemen, Iran, Turkey, Egypt, Ethiopia, Hungary, and Russia.

| This program is funded by Samsung
Electronics Co. (SEC) in an effort to cultivate global leaders
for research and development in the field of Computer, Electronics,
and Communication Engineering. |
| The Scholarship |
| Selected international students
are sponsored for a 2-year master¡¯s program at SNU¡¯s school
of EECE with the following scholarship package: |

Living expenses (£Ü800,000 or US$750 per month) |

Two round-trip airplane tickets to his or her home country
(tickets are provided once a year) |

| Conditions
of the Program |
 |
Upon completion of studies at EECE, the scholarship
recipient is required to work at SEC (in Korea) for 2
years in an appointment related to his or her major. |

After 2 years of employment at SEC, he or she may continue to work at SEC Korea or return to his or her home country to work for a local subsidiary of SEC, upon mutual agreement between him or her and SEC. |

| Eligibility |

The applicant¡¯s academic achievement should be superior;
he or she must place in the top 30% of his/her class at
a prestigious university in his or her home country. |

The applicant should be able to work at SEC in Korea
for 2 years after completion of his/her studies at SNU. |

The applicant¡¯s major must be in the field of Electrical,
Electronics, Communication, or Computer Engineering; Science;
Physics; or Mathematics. |

Scholarship |
The Ministry of Education offers a scholarship program for international students from countries that have concluded a bilateral cultural agreement with Korea. The applicant must be a citizen of a country to which the scholarship is offered. Graduate or research applicants must have, or must be expecting to receive, a Bachelor's Degree and Doctorate applicants must have, or must be expecting to receive, a Master's Degree, prior to August 31 in the year of application. Academic grades from the last educational institute attended must be within the top 20%, and applicants must possess a good command of Korean or English. The scholarship covers the cost of airfare, living expenses, tuition fees, a research allowance, language training expenses and medical insurance. The application procedure is as follows. First, Korean diplomatic or consular missions abroad make a preliminary selection of applicants based upon the recommendations of the government of the country to which the scholarship is allocated. Once the preliminary selection is made, the Korean mission abroad recommends the selected candidates to the National Institute for International Education Development (NIIED) via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Next, the scholarship review committee of the NIIED selects the finalists and notifies the Korean embassy via the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the selection of the candidates, and then, as the final step in the official procedure, the Korean embassy sends an award letter (confirmation of acceptance) to each recipient.
