Although I had to walk a long distance to school everyday, I appreciated the opportunity, stayed focused and studied hard. I used to dip my feet in cold water to stay awake late into the night to have ample time to study. Having been saved, I had a strong stand in the promises of God, and understood that God had a specific purpose for me, that He would use me during my life for His purposes. Even though it seemed hopeless at times, I never looked down on myself. God blessed the work of my hands and by my 4th year, in 2005, I attained an aggregate grade of an A-(minus).
In school, I peer tutored my classmates in mathematics and sciences, and enjoyed an active life playing table tennis, running, soccer and volleyball. I also led the Christian movement and wildlife club; our activities included planting trees around the school and cleaning the school compound. During school breaks, I joined the outdoor church missions, crusades, and visited the sick with other church members. In addition, I helped coordinate youth seminars to reach the fellow youth with moral teaching.
After I graduated from high school, because I could not find enough financial support for my college education, I taught high school students who were preparing to take the national exam. It was a wonderful experience for me to be able to lead other youths in my village to strive for and finally achieve higher education, and I knew that one day soon I too would come across an opportunity that would bring me closer to my dream.
It has always been my dream to study at an internationally competitive school like SNU, to study under world-acclaimed professors and among academically outstanding students. At the same time, it will be a great opportunity for me to learn about the people and experience the environment that has enabled such rapid economic development.
I believe that SNU is the most ideal place for me to pursue my line of study, because SNU has all the resources necessary for learning and the environment is excellent for someone who wants to realize his or her dreams. I would like to pursue my further studies here because SNU has all that it takes for one to excel in life.
I truly look forward to the next four years of my life and can¡¯t wait to see what life at SNU and in Korea has in store for me.
