Scholarships for Exchange Students

The following is the scholarship programs offered to incoming international exchange students from all over the world. Program details can be found on the web board of SNU’s Office of International Affairs (http://oia.snu.ac.kr) or foundation website.

SNU-WOONGJIN Global Multicultural Scholarship

Eligibility
  • Undergraduate and graduate exchange students from developing nations in Asia. Priorities will be given to those majoring in engineering and natural sciences
Number of Recipients
  • 10 students
Subsidies
  • Tuition fee: exchange students are exempted from SNU tuition fee
  • Living expenses: 600,000 KRW per month for undergraduate students, 700,000 KRW per month for graduate students
  • Airfare: one round trip
  • Language training: tuition fee for Evening Korean Language Class at SNU’s Language Education Institute exempted
  • Period: one semester or one year (two semesters)

  • During the exchange student application period each semester
Selection Procedure
  • Applicants receive recommendations by their own universities officially partnered with SNU ⇒ applicants submit the recommendations along with applications to SNU’s Office of International Affairs ⇒ the Office makes the selection

Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) for Exchange Students

Eligibility
  • Incoming exchange student from developing countries
Number of Recipients
  • The National Institute for International Education (NIIE) announces the number of nominees per university each year
Subsidies
  • Tuition fee waiver: exchange students are exempted from SNU tuition fee
  • Living expenses: 800,000 KRW per month
  • Airfare: one round trip airfare cost within the limited range of each country
  • Settlement aid: 200,000 KRW (one time)
  • Medical insurance
  • Period: one semester or one year
Selection Period
  • During the exchange student application period each semester
Selection Procedure
  • Applicants receive recommendations by their own universities officially partnered with SNU ⇒ applicants submit the recommendations along with applications to SNU’s Office of International Affairs ⇒ the National Institute for International Education make the final selection

Korea-Japan Exchange Student Scholarships

Eligibility
  • Incoming Japanese exchange students
Number of Recipients
  • The National Institute for International Education announces number of nominees per university each year
Subsidies
  • Tuition fee waiver: exchange students are exempted from SNU tuition fee
  • Living expenses: 800,000 KRW per month
  • Settlement aid: 1.5 million KRW (one time)
  • Period: one semester or one year
Selection Period
  • During the exchange student application period each semester
Selection Procedure
  • Applicants receive recommendations by their own universities officially partnered with SNU ⇒ applicants submit the recommendations along with applications to SNU’s Office of International Affairs ⇒ the National Institute for International Education make the final selection

Asian Student Exchange Program Scholarships (Kyushu University)

Eligibility
  • Prospective exchange students from Kyushu University
Number of Recipients
  • Number of recipients are decided under the negotiation between the two universities each year
Subsidies
  • Tuition fee waiver: exchange students are exempted from SNU tuition fee
  • Living expenses: 600,000 KRW per month
  • Period: one semester or one year
Selection Period
  • During the exchange student application period each semester
Selection Procedure
  • Applicants in Kyushu University receive recommendations from Kyushu University ⇒ applicants submit the recommendations along with applications to SNU’s Office of International Affairs ⇒ the Office makes the selection

ASEM-DUO Fellowship Program

Eligibility
  • Undergraduate exchange students in ASEM member countries in Europe who wish to come to SNU
