Faculty Position in the College of Engineering

Seoul National University (SNU) invites applications for full-time, tenure track positions at all ranks and in a range of disciplines. SNU seeks international scholars with outstanding research and teaching credentials who will play an integral role in the development, growth, and diversity of their respective programs. Applicant review for each position will begin 2008 and continue until the position is filled.
The Times of London ranked SNU 51st among the world's best universities in 2007. SNU aims to become one of the top ten universities by 2025. SNU is comprised of 16 colleges, one graduate school of arts and sciences, and six professional graduate schools, with a total enrollment of 27,973 students. The full-time faculty of 1,975 professors offers more than 83 undergraduate and 98 graduate programs including 27 interdisciplinary programs. SNU also includes 65 research institutes and 47 national government supported research centers. The new positions have been authorized of the Ministry of Education, Science & Technology to support SNU's goal of becoming one of the leading international universities. Position details
1. Conditions
- Status : Tenure-Track
- Initial Contract : 3 years, with options of renewal or conversion to tenure
- Salary Range : Full-time professor's salary based on the stipulations of 'National Civil Service Labor Cost & allowance'. Salaries are based on years of experience in post-PhD positions or equivalent. In addition, incentive salaries may be offered based on academic achievements, previous career and current salary level.
* Additional incentive of $30,000 ~ 50,000 may be considered for those with exceptional achievements or careers.
* Taxation: Korea in many cases offers highly favorable taxation treatment to foreign residents; however the level of benefit is likely to depend on any tax treaty between Korea and your home country, and on your country's tax treatment of Korean-derived income.

2. Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Teaching: Lecture and Practice (2 courses per semester)
- Research: Conduct research projects and works assigned by SNU
- Supervising: Supervision of Thesis research
- Internal Contribution: Develop programs for the 'Institute for Global Studies' at SNU

Requirements
Each candidate must have earned a Ph.D. by the September 2008 start date, and will be expected to lecture in English. Excellent competence in oral and written English is essential for each position, and native-level competence will be regarded as highly desirable in assessing applications.
