[RESEARCH] Professor JANG Jyongsik of the SNU School of Chemical and Biological Engineering and his team have recently invented a transparent, flexible speaker using graphene electrodes and PVDF film. JANG explained this invention is particularly notable in that a uniform and flat electrode was successfully created. This transparent speaker is expected to have diverse applications, attached to various surfaces such as car windows and computer monitors. Their results were published in Chemical Communications on July 11.

[FIGURES] Professor CHAR Kookheon of the SNU School of Chemical and Biological Engineering was appointed a Gutenberg Research College-Fellow by the Gutenberg Research College (GRC, affiliated with the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz). This is the first time that the GRC has chosen a scholar from outside Germany and CHAR is the first Korean to have become a fellow of the GRC.

[UNIVERSITY POLICY] The Center for Teaching and Learning at SNU has introduced a new mentoring program, in which a freshman is paired with a professor emeritus as mentee and mentor. This program was arranged in order to help students experiencing problems adjusting to college life and going through more trial and error in selecting their career paths due to financial difficulties.

[FIGURES] BAE In-ho, graduate of SNU and the creator of and lecturer of (a web-based tutoring system for high school students), has decided to donate a total of seven hundred million KRW to SNU. It is his belief that "Education is the only way in which man can become human," and "Everyone is entitled to an education." The donation takes the form of a contract, according to which Mr. Bae will be giving all of his current monthly salary (1.1 million KRW) for the next twenty years.

[INTERVIEW] LEE Gwang Hwan, manager of the SNU Baseball Team, had an interview with Chosun Ilbo. When asked about the team's poor performance, Lee answered that the reality of the Korean education system is that studying and sports cannot coexist for students. The SNU Baseball Team currently has a record of only 1 win out of approximately 270 games. Lee expressed his affection for his team that still trains hard, even in a tough environment.
