Three SNU Research Teams Selected for ‘BK 21 Plus’

The National Research Foundation of Korea announced the final teams for the ‘BK 21 Plus’ program. Three teams from SNU whose areas of research are cognitive neuroscience, molecular medicine and biophysics respectively were chosen. ‘BK 21 Plus’ is a government-initiated program which funds universities and promotes research in areas that are critical to national growth. Twenty-one teams from 14 universities were chosen, and they will receive grants totaling 1,300,000,000 KRW each year until 2019.

SNU Decides Against Raising the Price of the 1700 KRW Cafeteria Meal

SNU has decided not to raise the price of the 1700 KRW cafeteria meal. In July, the SNU Cooperative announced that it planned to raise the price of cafeteria meals due to a 130,000,000 KRW deficit induced by recent inflation. However, SNU students were of the opinion that the price of the 1700 KRW meal at least should be maintained, since students who are struggling economically usually choose that menu. more

Professor Bernhard Egger Appointed SNU’s First Foreign Administrative Faculty Member

Professor Bernhard Egger of the School of Computer Science and Engineering was appointed Director of Information and International Affairs of the College of Engineering and became the first ever non-Korean administrative faculty member. Professor Egger’s job as an administrative faculty member is to act as a bridge between foreign students and professors and the school by identifying problems faced by foreign students and professors and resolving them from a foreigner’s perspective.

Professor Finchum-Sung Interviewed by Arirang TV

Arirang TV will air an interview with Professor Hilary V. Finchum-Sung of the SNU College of Korean Music on its main talk show ‘The Interview.’ Professor Finchum-Sung, who has been teaching at SNU since 2009, is an American and not an ethnic Korean.

SNU Offers Lectures to Public via SNU APPs
September 22, 2013
SNU will be the first Korean university to offer its lectures to the public through the Internet and smart phone apps. Starting September 23, SNU will provide free of charge 13 courses that were taught this spring, the classes ranging from Criminal Procedure Law to Environment and Health. The SNU Open Lecture Service not only provides online lectures, but also provides users with quizzes, debate questions and a system to submit assignments.
