SNU Undergraduate Student’s Article Published by Angewandte Chemie
February 21, 2014
Mr. Kwang Hee KIM, an undergraduate student in the College of Liberal Studies, had his paper published in the January edition of Angewandte Chemie, one of the two most respected chemistry journals in the world. In his article titled ‘Carbon Dioxide Capture and Use: Organic Synthesis Using Carbon Dioxide from Exhaust Gas’, he suggested the possibility of carbon dioxide’s industrial use. Carbon dioxide is easy to obtain in nature, but has not been used for such a purpose due to unstable supply. Mr. Kim sought to solve this problem by using carbon dioxide from burned candles and alcohol lamps. Mr. Kim wrote the article while interning in Professor Soon Hyeok HONG’s lab, and stated that he wishes to continue his studies in graduate school.

SNU Professor Finds Way to Build Graphene on Top of LEDs
February 23, 2014
Professor Euijoon YOON of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering has developed a way to build graphene directly on light emitting diodes (LEDs). Previously, graphene could only be built on copper and had to be transferred to other boards which proved to be problematic. Also, Professor Yoon’s research team used chemical vapor deposition to prevent the LEDs from being damaged while building graphene on top of them. Two patents have been submitted for review. This research was conducted in cooperation with Sejong University, and was published in the February 8 online edition of ACS Nano.
