SNU Ranked 26th in World Reputation Rankings
March 7, 2014 SNU was ranked 26th in the Times Higher Education (THE) World Reputation Rankings 2014. This is a major improvement from ranking 41st last year. Of Asian universities, SNU ranked 4th after the University of Tokyo, the University of Kyoto and the National University of Singapore. SNU rose from last year’s 6th place, coming before the University of Hong Kong and Tsinghua University. Overall, Harvard University ranked 1st and MIT and Stanford University ranked 2nd and 3rd respectively. The THE World Reputation Rankings is the world's largest invitation-only academic opinion survey. more

Eighty-Four Percent of College of Engineering Professors Will Participate in the SNUe Consulting Program
March 8, 2014 The SNUe Consulting Center which opened on March 10 will serve as a technical advisor to underfunded small and medium sized corporations with 84 percent of College of Engineering professors and 1600 graduate students participating. For example, when a chemical company requests consulting on continued defective products, SNUe will gather researchers from the Departments of Chemistry, Materials Science and Engineering, and Computer Science and Engineering and provide help in four stages: solve the current technological problem, evaluate the economic feasibility of the solution, educate users of the new technology and commercialize it. Professor Kunwoo LEE (dean of the College of Engineering) stated that SNUe will only receive minimal consulting fees, as it plans to work mostly with small businesses. more

Sir Paul Nurse, President of the Royal Society, Visits SNU
March 9, 2014 Sir Paul Maxime Nurse, president of the Royal Society, visited SNU on March 10 to seek potential ways of cooperation between SNU and the Royal Society. Sir Nurse met with President Yeon Cheon OH and discussed SNU’s global research ability, Korea’s scientific development and possible means of exchange between the two organizations. After this, Sir Nurse had a meeting at the SNU Research Institute of Basic Sciences and reaffirmed their shared belief in the importance of long term investment in science. Sir Nurse then gave a public lecture on ‘Making Science Work’ at the School of Law. The Royal Society is an academic organization dedicated to the natural sciences which was founded in 1660. more
