Professor KIM Dae Hyeong’s Research on Electronic Skin Published in Nature Nanotechnology
March 31, 2014 Professor Kim Dae Hyeong (School of Chemical and Biological Engineering) developed a silicon patch embedded with sensors and memory devices which monitors muscle activity, stores data and delivers feedback therapy. This patch is only one millimeter thick and adheres to the skin, bending and stretching according to muscle movement, thus receiving the name ‘electronic skin’. When worn on the wrist, the patch monitors muscle movement by the minute, records the pattern of movement and administers medicine using heating elements. The patch can be mass produced as it applies semiconductor production technology. Right now the patch can be used to treat Parkinson’s disease, but Professor Kim believes that, with additional sensors to detect other diseases, the patch can be used to treat any other illnesses. more
SNU to Establish Sports Institute for Students’ Health
SNU to Establish Sports Institute for Students’ Health
April 1, 2014 SNU has announced its plan to establish an institute to teach and promote sports by the end of this semester, as it has determined that SNU students seriously lack exercise. Last year’s student health examination results revealed that SNU students’ most prominent health problem (96.2 percent of students) was lack of vitamin D as students spent so little time outdoors. Also, more than half of SNU students reported symptoms of depression. The SNU Sports Institute (name not yet decided) will introduce sports programs and sports related education, support students’ athletic activities and better manage SNU sports facilities. “A sound mind in a sound body,” a school official stated is the ultimate goal of the school’s regarding every student’s health and well-being. “We will try our best to create a culture in which students truly enjoy sports.” more

SNU Museum of Art Exhibition on Nomadism
April 3, 2014 SNU Museum of Art is hosting an exhibition on nomadism under the title ‘Moving Vision’, in which 22 pieces of art related to the themes of migration and peripatetic lifestyles are to be introduced. The theme itself may be cliché, but the design of individual pieces are quite novel. Max Gunawan’s ‘Lumio’ is a book when closed, but when opened it turns out to be a bright LED light. The work of other artists such as Lieke Jildou de Jong, SIBLING and HAN Sung Pil are also on display. The exhibition ends on May 22. more
