Professor CHOI Mansoo Develops Third Generation Solar Cell
July 25, 2014 Professor Choi Mansoo (Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering) has developed a perovskite solar cell which has been approved as the most efficient solar cell by the US National Renewable Energy Laboratory. This perovskite solar cell has a generating efficiency of 17.9 percent, compared to the 14.1 percent efficiency shown by the cell which came in 2nd place. The biggest advantage of perovskite solar cells is that their manufacturing cost is only one-third of that of silicon solar cells which currently dominate the solar cell market. It is also adaptable to mass production. This project has received funding of an annual amount of 10 billion Korean won from the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning since the year 2011. more

He sang Daland on July 26 with a fellow Korean singer as the protagonist Dutchman, marking the first time two Koreans have sung on the same stage in the history of the Bayreuth Festival.
