Anti-aging Cluster to Open at SNU Pyeongchang Campus
September 5, 2014 The Institute of Green Bio Science and Technology announced its plan to open the ‘Winter Olympics Legacy Related Anti-aging Business Cluster’ at the SNU Pyeongchang Campus. The anti-aging business is a complex business which deals with the development and supply of medical and non-medical products and services to delay aging. The Institute of Green Bio Science and Technology will open some of its main facilities before the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics so that Olympic athletes and IOC members can experience the anti-aging cluster. The cluster will include an anti-aging resort, nursing facility, fitness center, research center, personalized food treatment center and other anti-aging related businesses. The Institute of Green Bio Science and Technology said that it will relate the anti-aging business cluster with the 2018 Winter Olympics legacy and make it a long-term project of Gangwon Province. more

Professor Richard A. Muller Gives a Lecture at SNU
September 10, 2014 Professor Richard Muller (University of California, Berkeley) gave a lecture on the theme of “Energy, Climate Change and Science Technology” at the SNU Global Engineer House on September 5. Professor Muller founded Berkeley Earth, a non-profit organization which focuses on global warming. He argued that ‘economic feasibility’ is a prerequisite for any alternative energy that can prevent global warming. Professor Muller pointed out that current alternative energy sources are unrealistic, as solar heat generation costs three to six times more than nuclear energy generation. “Nuclear energy may not be reusable, but it is a sustainable alternative energy,” he said. “To meet the enormous energy demand of developing countries, the use of nuclear energy and shale gas would be appropriate.” more

Interview with Newly Appointed Professor, Yonghoon LEE
September 11, 2014 Mr. Yonghoon Lee, a world renowned tenor who has performed at the New York Metropolitan Opera, Berlin National Opera, the Lyric Opera of Chicago and Milano’s La Scala, was newly admitted into the SNU Department of Vocal Music faculty. He has never performed on an opera stage in Korea, and has performance reservations overseas until 2019. During opera seasons, Professor Lee will teach classes via email and online video calls. In an e-mail interview with JoongAng Daily, he shared his personal experience of how he almost quit singing after graduating from the College of Music and studying abroad in New York under dire economic circumstances when he ate nothing and only drank tap water for several days. He believes these experiences matured his music, and wishes to help his students find the reason why they must keep singing. more
