Professor BAEK Rong-Min’s Twenty-five Years of Medical Volunteer Work Awarded
December 23, 2014 Professor BAEK Rong-Min (plastic surgeon, School of Medicine) was awarded the Audrey Hepburn Humanitarian Award (AHHA) on November 27 for his twenty-five years of volunteer work performing free medical surgeries on facially deformed children. Professor Baek first started his volunteer work in 1989 after a patient who had set an operation date with him failed to show up due to economic reasons. He toured the country during weekends, operating on 100 patients every year. more

New Technology to Find Antibiotics for Super Bacteria in Three Hours or Less
December 18, 2014 Professor KWON Sunghoon’s research team, along with SNU Hospital and QuantaMatrix Inc., have developed a rapid antibiotics susceptibility test which only requires a maximum of three hours. Conventional antibiotics susceptibility tests required a minimum of 16 to 24 hours, making doctors wait overnight to determine a diagnosis. more

SNU Lowers Tuition Fee for Three Consecutive Years
January 6, 2015 SNU has managed to lower tuition fees for three consecutive years. In 2013 and 2014, SNU cut tuition fees by 0.25 percent. This year, SNU succeeded in lowering them by 0.3 percent. SNU originally planned a 2.4 percent increase in tuition fees but student representatives on the Review Board requested a 5 percent reduction. The Board was able to reach a compromise of a small cut. An SNU official explained that its decision was in consideration of the economic burden upon students. more
