

The Humanities Korea Project (HK) is a Korean government’s initiative launched in 2007 which aims to promote humanities as an academic discipline. It provides the selected research institutions with long-term financial support. Six of SNU institutions are participating in this project.
The ultimate goal of our HK project is to secure a new outlook on 'Humanities Studies in Korea.' The main mission of our project is to create Korean versions of the classics produced in diverse civilizations. Through this 'Koreanizing' the classics of civilization, we hope to go beyond passively studying these original classics and move toward a more active and independent understanding of them.
Kyujanggak Institute for Korean Studies is conducting research projects to search a new approach method of Korean Studies, based on the documentary heritage of Joseon Dynasty housed in Kyujanggak Institute. We make our status playing a leading role in Korean Studies strong through this and will carry out all social responsibilities of universities with the programs we have run such as Citizen(Public) Lecture, exhibitions and so on based on the researches.
HK Peace Research Group aims for multi-disciplinary and convergence study to realize peace in the Korean Peninsular, and also to achieve peaceful unification of two Koreas. Our mission is to conduct research on peace and civilization that encompasses ecological concerns, and, based on that research, to build a foundation for regional cooperation among Northeast Asian countries. For this purpose, we focus on the research projects on the system, institution, value and culture of Korea.
Institute of Latin American Studies(SNUILAS) has been building a new paradigm of interdisciplinary approach and the construction of regional database under the title of "21st Century Latin America in the Trans modern Era". HK Project will provide fertile soil for SNUILAS to be a leading research institute in the field.
At Institute for Japanese Studies, we engage in long-term experimental researches focused on the contemporary Japan's Life-world. It is our hope to play a leading role within Japanese Studies, through an analytical framework of "Transformation and Restructuring of Identity and Borders," as we observe the dynamics of multi-dimensional changes occurring within Japan's Life-world today.
SNU EU Center is conducting a research to develop a worldwide hub of EU studies. The Center will coordinate the teaching, research and outreach activities, lead the research on Europe both at home and abroad, and thereby contribute to domestic and foreign study community.
