The month of May has so far been a festive and enjoyable time for SNU students. The Spring Festival took place with a guest performance from rapper Beenzino and various departments have been selling food and drinks throughout campus. Another event that took place among the spring festivities was Art Space @ SNU, an art festival that was held from May 9 to 13 featuring different art displays across campus. The exhibition included music, art, and theater, and was created to showcase the talents of SNU artists. There were a total of 25 art displays by students who belonged to the Colleges of Arts, Music and Humanities, and the SNU Student Council.

Some of the musical performances included piano performances from various piano clubs in the school and even included a “piano battle,” where two students compete for votes while trying to outplay the other. Other musical performances included those of the SNU trombone and saxophone ensembles.

Art Space featured various pieces throughout the campus such as the Paperback Exhibition, a project consisting of boxlike structures transformed into colorful pieces on display in multiple parts of campus, such as at the Student Lawn and near the College of Humanities.

For the theater component of Art Space, the SNU Drama Club put on Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night at the College of Humanities on May 12, 13, and 14.

Art Space’s resounding success can be attributed to the diligent work of the students who not only created all of the exhibitions and performances but also organized and advertised the event. In addition to the meticulous preparation, the timing of the event was also well chosen, as it was held during the Spring Festival, a time of the year when many students are outside enjoying the festivities.

The event brought a cheerful atmosphere to the school, with the positive attitudes of the students enhancing the natural beauty of the campus environment. According to one student, Art Space is “a time when students who usually cannot feature their art, because they are only students, get to display their work.” Not only is Art Space enjoyable for the students who watch the events but it is also a platform for students to share work with their peers. Art Space reminds us that art is a part of our lives that we all share.
