On August 8, SNU announced plans to open two new graduate schools by March 2018: the Graduate School of Peace and Unification and the Graduate School of Data Science and Innovation.

As a leading education for unification studies, SNU had originally planned to create a program dedicated to Peace and Unification Studies within already existing graduate departments. However, it has recently been reimagined as an independent graduate school. Various colleges, such as those of Engineering, Medicine, Law, and Agriculture, will collaborate to create the new Graduate School of Peace and Unification.

The Graduate School of Data Science and Innovation will also be a collaboration between various colleges at SNU such as the Colleges of Business, Humanities, and Medicine, and will focus on big data research.

According to an SNU representative, the exact details of the new graduate schools have not been decided yet, and therefore, lots of preparation is still needed. SNU will start preparing for the opening of the schools this Fall semester and hopes to have them open by Spring 2017 or Spring 2018.
