The Museum of Art (MoA) will challenge our notions of beauty and ugliness with its new exhibition, Ugly as Art: Distortions in Contemporary Art, which will run from March 3 through May 14.

The exhibition will convey the chaos and anxiety of the modern generation and explore the aesthetic value of emotions such as envy and desire. It will feature 50 individual pieces, representing the work of 13 artists, including the works of Jean Dubuffet, a French artist who brought about a new approach to the previously thought standards of beauty by adding different textures and refused to comply with ideologies of the then considered “high art.” Another one of the featured artists is Jiyoon Koo, a Korean artist whose oil painting Trick Mirror will be in this exhibition.

The MoA is now recruiting volunteers to work as exhibition guides. Applications are open until to March 1 and applicants must be 19 or older. Guides must be available for the entire duration of the exhibition.

The application form can be found at: http://www.snumoa.org/Moa_new/resources/application.asp
