The International Conference on Computer Vision (ICCV) was held in Seoul from October 27 to November 2. Organized by Professor Kyoung Mu Lee (Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering), General Chair of ICCV 2019, ICCV is the world’s largest international conference in the field of visual and artificial intelligence. This year was the first time that the event was held in Korea.

Sponsored by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Korean Computer Vision Society, ICCV has been leading the development of global computer and artificial intelligence technologies since 1987.

This year’s event attracted over 7,500 professionals, academics, researchers, and students from over 50 nations. More than a thousand papers were presented at the conference, covering topics such as facial recognition technology for security management, environment recognition technology for autonomous vehicles and virtual and augmented reality. More than 70 international companies, including Google, Samsung Electronics, Amazon, Facebook, LG, and Uber, showcased their respective technologies and products in artificial intelligence and computer vision.

In particular, a number of papers directly related technologies in high-tech fields to the fourth industrial revolution, including surrounding environment recognition technology for autonomous vehicles, management and application of video contents using artificial intelligence technology and security management technology through facial, postural and behavioral recognition.

Professor Lee stated that the event is a “meaningful opportunity to introduce cutting-edge technologies and spur interest in artificial intelligence technologies not only in Korea, but across the world.”
