Professor KWON Jun-soo Received Wunsch Medical Award

Professor KWON Jun-soo, College of Medicine earned the Wunsch Medical Award, one of the most prestigious prizes in the domestic medical sector. The award was named after Richard Wunsch, the first German physician in Korea.

As a renowned psychiatrist, Kwon thus far has published 299 papers in such peer-reviewed journals as the American Journal of Psychiatry, and the Archives of General Psychiatry.

He is also leading studies here on brain imaging and neurophysiology research in the field of cognitive science.

Richard Wunsch served as a personal doctor to King Gojong from 1901 to 1905. The Wunsch Medical Award was launched in 1990 by the Korea Academy of Medical Sciences.

An independent panel composed of medical experts factor in many criteria in picking the recipient of the annual award such as the number, quality as well as influence of their papers.

``I am somewhat burdened to receive the Wunsch Award. I will double my efforts in research down the road. I hope to contribute more to the enhancement of the Korean medical society in international competition,’’ Kwon said.
