In this talk, Dr. Victoria Lemieux presents an overview of the uses and potential of blockchain in records management and archival applications, along with some perils and pitfalls. The presentation will draw upon Dr. Lemieux’s work as a member of the International Standard’s Technical Committee Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies since 2017, her own research blockchain technology and, more recently, non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Participants will be given a glimpse of her forthcoming book Searching for Trust: Blockchain Technology in the Age of Disinformation, which will be published by Cambridge University Press.

Victoria Lemieux is an Associate Professor of Archival Science at the School of Information and lead of Blockchain@UBC at the University of British Columbia, Canada’s largest and most diverse research cluster devoted to blockchain technology. Her current research is focused risk to the availability of trustworthy records, in particular in blockchain record keeping systems, and how these risks impact upon transparency, financial stability, public accountability and human rights.

In 2020, Dr. Lemieux was honoured ase of the top 20 women in cybersecurity in Canada by IT World Canada.
