2011 Application of Gwanaksa Residency for Graduate Students(Including Research Student)

This application guide only pertains to graduate and research student of S.N.U Gwanak campus in 2011. Undergraduate students should refer to other notices.

I. Application Qualification:
   1. Qualification:
      1) International graduate students and full time research students who will be enrolled in S.N.U Gwanak
         campus in 2011 spring semester (Including freshmen and returning students)
      2) On Full-time Research Students:
         ㆍ Who can verify that she/he will research in Gwanak campus at least 5 days a week without any 
             other occupation 
         ㆍ A research student should be registered as a research student as of 2011, March
         ㆍ When enrolling, a full time research student should summit the documentation provided by Gwanaksa,
             which verifying the research student status.
         ㆍ The research students will be lastly selected as Gwanaksa residents.
   2. Application and enrollment will be restricted in the following case:
      1) Insufficiency of accumulative GPA
         - At least 2.0 of GPA
         - Grades of 2010 fall semester and winter session will not be included
         - If only taking “Thesis research” class which has no score, the students are not eligible for this application.
         - Those who have no GPA such as exchange student and freshmen, can apply the dormitory without GPA
      2) Contagious disease carriers
      3) Students who are restricted of residence due to penalty from Gwanaksa
      4) Students who will not study in Gwanak campus in 2011 spring semester 
         (Including students on leave of absence, non- full time research students, and medical college students)
      5) Students who are judged to be inapt for living in by the Dean of Gwanaksa
         ※ Students who have extreme difficulties in commuting to the campus due to physical handicap are
             prioritized as dormitory residents regardless of the above requirements.

II. Application
   1. Period: 2010, 13, December (Mon), 10:00 ~ 2010, 17, December (Fri), 18:00
   2. All applicants should apply according to the school record of 2011 spring semester. For example, 
      if an applicant upgrades from a master to a doctor students, he/she should apply as a doctor student. 
   3. How to apply:
      1) Visit Gwanaksa Homepage:
         - Korean: http://dorm.snu.ac.kr
         - English: http://dorm.snu.ac.kr/eng
      2) Click the banner “온라인 입사 신청” or “On-Line Application for GAS”
      3) Log in with your alien registration number and student I.D number
         - Freshmen: Use the application number
         - In case you do not have Alien Registration Card Number yet, please refer to following examples.
            ㆍ If your birthday is December 01, 1980, and your sex is male: 8012011000000 (YYMMDD1000000)
            ㆍ If your birthday is May 31, 1990, and your sex is female: 9005312000000 (YYMMDD2000000)
      4) Fill in every blank
         - The I.D photo should be under 50 kbytes and 100* 100 Pixel
         - Every blank should be filled. In case you don’t have proper information to fill in, then just input letter 
           “a” or number “0”. Please fill in every blank except Zip code blank.
         - Only for the Current Resident of the New graduate dormitory:
            Please carefully refer to following “Ⅲ. Information egarding the Residence Term Guarantee Policy”
         - Only for the New Comer: If you want to increase your chances of being accepted for the dorm, then
            please choose “Twin Room” type or “Double Application” instead of just selecting “Single room”, 
            because there is very few vacancies for single room at this moment. Also, Gwanaksa firstly assigned
            single rooms to regular doctor course students. Please carefully regard these information prior to
            application.
      5) click “반영” button
      6) Log out
         - Once submitted applications, applicants should use ‘신청서 수정 Modify’ menu for correcting the form
            ※ When you experience difficulties to submit the application form,

III. Information regarding the Residence Term Guarantee Policy
   Please find details of Gwanaksa Residence Term Guarantee Policy for international graduate students. 
      1. What is the Residence Term Guarantee
         Already accepted Gwanaksa, graduate students will under certain conditions be guaranteed a place 
         in a double room for more than 1 year
      2. Who is eligible for the Residence Term Guarantee?
         This polic applies to all international graduate residents in Bldg. 900 ~906 (the New Graduate Dormitory)
         applying for only double room in 2011 residency application.
      3. How to become a beneficiary of the Residence Term Guarantee Policy
         Students who qualify the above condition Ⅱ should do the following:
            1) When filling the application form, applicants should click the “Residence Term Guarantee” box.
            2) In case an applicant cooses NOT to click the box “Residence Term Guarantee”, the applicant would
               be regarded as non-beneficiaries of the guarantee policy.
            3) When applying for the”Residence Term Guarantee Policy”, the applicants can NOT choose the room
               types, as only double room in the New Graduate Dormitory will be provided.
      4. Terms of the Residence Guarantee Policy
         1) The basic unit of the residence term is “Semester”; for example, even if a resident stays for just one
            week during a semester, the whole semester would be treated as his/her period of stay.
         2) On admission to a Gwanaksa double room, Masters degree resident can stay for a maximum period 
           of 3 years (6 semesters), while PhD degree resident can stay for a maximum period of 5 years 
           (10 semesters). 
         3) In case of a full time research students, a Masters candidate can stay for a period of 1 year 
            (2 semesters), and a PhD degree candidate can stay for a period of 3 years (6 semesters).
         4) If a student upgrades from Masters to Doctoral course, fresh stay-term will be applied and the previous
            stay-duration will not be carried forward in the residence term in such aforementioned case.
         5) The residence term of single-room residents, who are non-beneficiaries of the Gwanska Residence
            Term Guarantee Policy, will be accumulated altogether.

IV. Apply for “Room Settling”, “Life pattern” and “Choosing Roommate”
   1. Period: 27, December, Monday, 11:00 ~ 31, December, Friday, 18:00
   2. These three applications are only available for being successful candidates of Gwanaksa on 27, Dec.
      Those who are accepted by waiting list numbers or undergraduate freshmen are not available for those
      services.
   3. Detailed information will be delivered with the announcement of the result on 27, Dec.

V. Free Medical Check-up
   1. Period: 6, December, Monday ~ 14, December, Tuesday, 10:00~16:00 
   2. Place: S.N.U Health Care Center
      - Location: Student Center (Bldg. 63) 3rd floor
   3. In case you take the medical check-up during this period at the S.N.U Health Care Center, you do not
      necessary to bring the result in document when you enroll Gwanaksa. Sometimes Gwanaksa will require
      your date of medical check-up, thus please leave a memo on your medical check-up date.
   4. In case you miss this medical check-up period, you should bring your medical check- up result in document 
      when you enroll in Gwanaksa, which will cost 2,000KRW.

VI. Enrollment 
   1. Period: 2011, 10, January, Monday ~ 2011, 19, January, Wednesday, 10:00 ~ 17:00
   2. Enrollment procedure includes both Submitting Documents and Paying the Gwanaksa Bill; if you fail to finish
      one of them, Gwanaksa systemically rearrange your reserved room to waiting candidates. Thus, even if you
      get the admitted, you will lose the entrance rights if you do not submit required documents and pay
      the housing fee.
   3. Detailed information will be delivered with the announcement of the result on 27, December.

VII. Additional Information
   1. Extra Announcements of additionally accepted candidate:
      Initial: 2011, 21, January, Friday, 11:00
      Secondary: 2011, 31, January, Monday, 11:00
      Tertiary: 2011, 21, February, Monday, 11:00
         ※ From 4th Round: Every Monday 11:00
   2. Gwanaksa will not provide the candidates with individual information delivery. Thus, please frequently 
      check Gwanaksa homepage.
   3. If there is any false statement in the application documents (including identity, GPA, address, etc.), your
      rights to stay in Gwanaksa will be withdrawn and you will be asked to move out. 
   4. If the student’s school status is changed by temporary absence, completion or graduation, the person 
      should check out voluntarily. If he/she is exposed, he/she will be expelled.
   5. When it comes to combined master and doctorate program students, Gwanaksa regards the starting of
       doctoral course from the 5th semester, because the school records change at the 5th semester from 
       master to doctor categories.
   6. When the applicants apply for a single room, they will be randomly assigned to Building 918 or the new
      graduate dormitory.
   7. If you apply for ‘Double Application’, you will get two waiting list number, one is for single room, and 
      the other is for double room. However, you should enroll the room which is firstly available. For example, 
      you can’t wait for a single room when you get the admission of a double room.
