[Figures] LEE Seung Jong, former vice president of research at SNU and chairman of the board of directors at the National Research Foundation of Korea, said that a grant policy under which research is supported but results are not evaluated will be introduced in Korea soon. The grant will benefit 30% of all researchers conducting fundamental research in the sciences and engineering fields, and is expected to help them display creativity.

[University Policy] Professor CHUNG Hyung Min of SNU's Department of Oriental Painting has been appointed as director of the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Korea. Chung has been teaching at SNU since 1994, and has served as the director of the SNU Museum of Art since 2006.

[Figures] Professor YUN Young Ho of SNU's College of Medicine and his life's work of conducting research into ways to improve the quality of life of cancer patients were introduced in Hankyoreh Shinmun. YUN has been conducting research at the National Cancer Center for the past 10 years, and in the article he stressed the importance of exercise, dietary therapy, and rehabilitation for cancer patients.

[Figures] Mr. BYUN Hyung Gyu and Mr. Baek In Gyun, students of SNU's College of Business Administration, collaborated with students from other universities to develop "MEEPLE," a mobile application that connects SNU students and high school students as mentors and mentees. Over 200 users have downloaded this application since its launch on January 10. The service will be expanded in the near future to include students from other universities as mentors.

[Figures], An incoming first-year student of SNU's College of Nursing and her brother were introduced in Chosun Ilbo. Ms. HONG Jung Min earned grades high enough to gain entrance into SNU while at the same time taking care of her brother, Mr. Hong Sung Hun, who is affected by a brain lesion. With his sister’s care and attention, Mr. Hong was able to overcome his disabilities to also enter college as a first-year student of the College of Humanities of Sungkyunkwan University.

[Figures] Mr. HA Yong Jin, owner of the only shoe repair shop on SNU's Gwanak Campus, was introduced in DongA Ilbo. Mr. Ha has been running his business for 56 years now, and has gone through SNU’s history together with the students. He prides himself as having the highest seniority on campus, but SNU Co-op has recently revealed that the shoe repair shop will be closing down this year.
