[News Report] SNU Institute on Aging and Metlife life insurance published the company's Metlife Integrated Retirement Readiness Index. According to this material, the baby-boomer generation in Korea -- those who were born in the years between 1955 and 1963, are planning to retire themselves at the age of 62, while the average retirement age is 55 in Korea. The report stated that most of the baby-boomers are financially ill-prepared for their lives after retirement. Three-quarters of the baby-boomers said that they haven't even thought about the financial status after the retirement. Half of them stated they had spent all their savings on child education. Only 15% have all three pensions -- national pension, retirement pension, and an individual pension.

[Figures] A team named iDEN, composed of SNU students majoring in design, engineering and nuclear engineering, won the first prize at The Global Joint Symposium 2012 held at the Harbin Institute of Technology in China. Mr. YOO Sung-geun from the Department of Design came up with the idea to make a new kind of platform robot in the engineering class taught by Professor KIM Jongwon and cooperated with the students from 'Sigma,' a student club from the College of Engineering. Their creation, a home platform robot
and action application modules, is designed to carry out various functions according to modules attached such as a TV, speaker, and security module.

[Figures] SNU's Department of Philosophy held a commemorative event on January 19, for the retirement of Professor Mark SIDERITS. Professor Siderits joined SNU in 2008 as the first foreign professor in the department. He said to his students gathered at the event that it was his great pleasure to teach them, and, as a Buddhist philosopher, he would say that it would have been the hetu-pratyaya (destiny) that he met them. He was nicknamed as 'SNU Socrates' for his unique communicative teaching
style. His colleague Professor KANG expressed his regeret that the University should let go of this good professors due to the school policy about regular retirement age.
